Established by Geoff Clark, owner of iconic store The Country Trader, pyd is aimed at people with a taste for adventurous thinking and new concepts, and at those who want to keep abreast of the latest trends in interiors.

“I don’t have any trouble saying that we’re the leading design centre in Sydney,” says Geoff.  “What people are doing here is extraordinary, from Koda lighting with their revolutionary LED system to Mother of Peal & Sons, who offer superb quality in door fixtures and fittings.”

Situated between Phillip, Young and Danks Street (hence its initials) in Sydney’s now-fashionable Waterloo, pyd fills a niche in the market that Geoff spotted after his travels to New York and Los Angeles.  “I’d seen design centres like the D&D Bu8ilding and the Blue Whale, which form a cultural heart and a concentration of the industry in those cities and I couldn’t understand why Sydney didn’t have somewhere like that,” he explains.
Now, partly as a result of pyd’s arrival on the scene in 2007, Geoff has seen the neighbourhood grow and improve to the extent that it has become widely recognised as Sydney’s premier design and good-living precinct.  “It’s become anchored as the area for people who are highly aware of design, food and art and who have their fingers on the pulse,” he says.  “The shoppers who come here are a very knowledgeable clientele.”
