EMBELLISH ATELIER
The internationally renowned couture milliner will be here to tempt and delight.
St Catherine is the patron Saint of Hats so it was fitting for talented artist, Catherine Kelly to launch her first hat collection on St Catherine’s Day, November 27th 2002.
Catherine designs and crafts her hats in a French-inspired studio called Embellish Atelier, an intimate space that positively overflows with magical pieces collected during a lifetime of travel. Her inspiration comes from many sources including the natural environment and from architecture.
“Studying millinery – the art of hat-making - has allowed me to indulge in my lifelong passion for fabric, colour, and texture,” says Catherine who puts to great use the skills she’s acquired over 25 years. From teaching, designing, sewing and marketing exquisite soft furnishings and crafted pieces, such as elegant gift items for Liberty of London, bespoke luxury bed linen, cushions and lampshades, and a collection of marvellous hats designed for a growing discerning clientele, the quality of design, materials and workmanship are always evident.
For your very own original and innovative Embellish Atelier creation, make an appointment to visit Catherine in her studio where she will design and craft the perfect headpiece to suit your special occasion.

International Highlight for Local Milliner
An invitation to enter one of her special creations into an international millinery competition has earned public acclaim for local milliner Catherine Kelly of Embellish Atelier, Rozelle.
Catherine’s signature red felt hat has won the Prix Du Public at the 2009 Atelier-Musee du Chapeau competition in Chazelles-Sur-Lyon in France.
This biennial “Arts Hats” competition attracted more than 150 entries from 21 countries. The theme was ‘Variable Geometry’ and it was a tricky task for the jury to select ten winners. Among the Jurors was Jean-Pierre Tritz from the House of Jean-Paul Gaultier.
Catherine’s entry overwhelmingly claimed the Audience Award. More than 3000 visitors to the exhibition voted. Catherine’s creation is a red felt hat adorned with black buttons, felt circles and trimmed with delicate black trimming entitled
“Circling the Unity of the Feminine Spirit”.
Catherine’s latest collection was launched at the Enchanted Golden Slipper Hats and High Tea at the Sir Stamford Hotel Circular Quay on Sunday March 21. This event saw Sydney Couture Milliners preview the latest trends in headwear for autumn fashions on the field as well as raising money for Redkite, a charity supporting children through cancer.
